Law Students

New Associates

Our attorneys are proud to serve as business and legal advisers to our clients. Associates joining us enjoy a broad range of opportunities beyond our many different practice areas, industry groups and office locations. Your experience is enhanced and expanded at a rate many times faster than many large firms through almost-immediate exposure to clients and real-world matters. You can expect to collaborate with attorneys who are valued by their clients as respected advisers and community leaders.

We have an ongoing professional development program that provides:

  • insight into the business of law,
  • strategies and tips for career development and
  • continuing legal education credits on everything from ethical requirements to cutting-edge practice areas.

These programs are designed to introduce you to other areas of the firm and its practices, broadening your understanding of our capabilities and enhancing client relationships.

Summer Law Clerk Program

We are no longer accepting applications for the 2024 Summer Law Clerk Program. We will post more details about the 2025 Summer Program soon.

Our Summer Law Clerk Program is crafted to introduce you to the firm and its high-quality collegial environment. Our culture of teamwork and collaboration is why we stand out as a place where attorneys come to build not only their skills, but also their careers. Your experience with us will enhance your understanding of the application of the law in many settings and circumstances as well as bring your vision of what life as an attorney is like into sharper focus. The program’s mentoring and constructive feedback on your assignments will add to your skills and development.

Beyond the exposure to real-world matters, the Summer Law Clerk Program includes opportunities to socialize and get to know both your peers, other attorneys and firm leaders.

Law School and On-Campus Interview (OCI) Recruiting Information

During the on-campus fall recruiting season, we interview second- and third-year law students for positions in most of our offices. We partner with many law schools across the country. We encourage students to speak with their career services team and submit their applications through the law school placement office when possible.

If we are not an official OCI participant, write-in applications will be accepted. Applications for write-in candidates typically open in June. Additional details regarding how to apply as a write-in candidate will be updated at a later date. If you have any questions in the meantime, please contact Jesse Tenorio, Recruiting Coordinator, at jtenorio@bsk.com. Application materials generated by artificial intelligence (AI) will not be accepted.

Bond, Schoeneck & King is an equal employment opportunity employer and welcomes candidates who can enhance our diversity. Learn more about Bond’s diversity initiatives.

Bond, Schoeneck & King OCI FAQs

Q: Does every office hire Summer Law Clerks?
A: No. Typically, the following Bond offices* hire at least one summer law clerk: Albany, Buffalo, Garden City, Melville, NYC, Rochester, Syracuse, White Plains, NY & Naples, FL. *This is subject to change.

Q: What is the size of the Summer Class?
A: It depends. Usually, classes range from 10-17 in total. Our downstate (and Naples, FL) offices are much smaller in size compared to our Upstate offices. Therefore, the smaller offices tend to have fewer seats available (and not all practice areas are represented). It’s common for smaller offices to only accept one Summer Law Clerk. Our largest office is in Syracuse, NY.

Q: How do I apply for Bond’s Summer Law Clerk Program?
A: We partner with several law schools and students are encouraged to formally apply through their school’s OCI program. We encourage students to speak with their career services office for more information.

Q: Can I apply to Bond’s Summer Program if I don’t attend an OCI school?
A: Yes, if we are not registered to attend your school’s OCI program, you can apply as a write-in candidate by applying through our applicant tracking system. We will update this website when the application opens. We typically begin accepting write-in application materials from rising 2L students in June, and our interviewing process typically concludes in September. Students are encouraged to specify their preferred office location(s) in their cover letter.

Q: Does Bond allow split summers?
A: We strongly encourage summer law clerks to select one office to take full advantage of all planned activities.

Q: Will I be assigned to a specific practice area?
A: Bond has a free-flowing assignment system that allows summer law clerks to work on projects from a variety of practice areas and partners.

Q: What types of training programs are provided to summer law clerks?
A: All summer law clerks go through two days of orientation (in Syracuse, NY) when they first join the firm. Additionally, we conduct weekly video conferences. Topics and training vary from week to week and cover a variety of substantive and practice areas.

Q: Does Bond hire 1Ls for its Summer Law Clerk Program?
A: Yes. Each year, we assess the needs of our offices and determine where we will be able to hire 1L students through The M. Catherine Richardson Clerkship Program. Applications are typically due the end of January. Visit our website to learn more.
