As a trial lawyer in state and federal courts of Florida and beyond, Eric has litigated a wide range of legal disputes including, complex commercial / business litigation, complex construction litigation, employment / labor litigation, complex probate litigation, real estate transaction litigation, catastrophic personal injury, wrongful death, civil rights claims, and summary administrative proceedings for professionals.
His clients include investment firms, banking institutions, construction development companies, general contractors, manufacturing companies, business owners, schools, homeowner / condominium associations and individuals. Eric also provides insurance defense representation. His practice also involves defending professionals, including physicians, other health care providers, veterinarians, mortgage brokers, school personnel and real estate agents in a variety of different administrative proceedings. Eric has been retained by governmental entities to represent executive personnel in a number of civil rights claims, including gender and employment discrimination claims.
Eric’s primary focus is trial practice. He has conducted numerous jury and non-jury trials and appeared on behalf of clients before disciplinary and administrative tribunals. He has also prosecuted and defended appeals in the Florida appellate courts as well as the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
Notably, Eric successfully secured payment of a one million dollar letter of credit after expedited trial proceedings and an expedited appeal with a published opinion. He has also negotiated catastrophic bodily injury claims with recoveries in excess of a million dollars. Eric is also known to have obtained one of the highest valued jury verdicts ever in Collier County for a defamation action. Although he no longer maintains a criminal defense practice, early in his career Eric was co-counsel in a double murder trial with the death penalty sought as punishment. As a result of the diversity of his litigation practice, Eric is exceedingly well versed in trial practice and procedure.
Eric has a long history of volunteering his time and providing service to the community as well as to the local bar association. He has been a member of the Board for Catholic Charities for a number of years serving currently as its Vice Chair. Eric is one of a few that has spearheaded a fund raising campaign to pay for the Catholic Charities Judy Sullivan Family Resource Center that houses programs that aide the working poor of Collier County. He has volunteered on numerous occasions for the Collier County High Schools’ Mock Trial Competition; has spoken to high school classes during Law Week; has participated as an educator for the Justice in Teaching initiative of the Florida Bar; and, he has been a speaker at Continuing Legal Education seminars in the areas of trial practice, ethics and employment law. Eric is a member of the Florida Bar’s Grievance Committee for Collier County where he and others serve to ensure that fellow attorneys continue to adhere to the ethical and professional standards set for lawyers who are licensed to practice law in Florida.
