Mia is an experienced attorney and compliance director with a long and accomplished background in the education management industry. Within the industry Mia has extensive experience working to support students with disabilities and ensuring that organizational policies and procedures are put in place to appropriately serve their needs.

Prior to coming to Bond, Mia was Senior Executive Director of Policy, Strategy and Systems for the New York City Department of Education (DOE). Here she oversaw the design and implementation of special education policies and strategies of City school districts; supported the DOE response for the provision of special education services; ensured compliance with operating procedures and managed aspects of class action litigation and other external inquiries and audits regarding special education.

Other responsibilities included:

  • Coordinating all Special Education Office (SEO) activities, inclusive of project management, policy development and analysis, strategic planning, and communication efforts;
  • Reviewing and analyzing evaluation compliance data for school-based and CSE-based psychologist teams to identify barriers to full compliance and strategically plan improvements;
  • Evaluating the implementation of special education services;
  • Identifying gaps in service provision and areas for improvement to lead strategic planning efforts; and
  • Ensuring effective implementation of strategic goals for preschool special education.

Before working in education management, Mia was a school law attorney involved in special education impartial hearing litigation which included overseeing a staff of paralegals, as well as working directly with school clients on sophisticated legal issues.
