Albany Attorney Hermes Fernandez Named To Serve on New York State Governor's Judicial Screening Committee

ALBANY, NY: Bond, Schoeneck & King, PLLC (Bond) is pleased to announce that Albany Attorney and Member Hermes Fernandez is one of four attorneys to be named to serve on the Governor's judicial screening committees for the four departments.

In a letter dated May 6, 2011 to Governor Andrew Cuomo, Stephen P. Younger, president of the state Bar Association, wrote he appointed four individuals to serve on screening panels to evaluate the qualifications of candidates for appointment or designation to judicial office. Mr. Fernandez will represent the Third Department. He is a Member-at-Large of the Executive Committee, State Bar Association.

The Governor's Executive Order 15 (Establishing Judicial Screening Committees) authorizes the president of the State Bar Association to select one member for each of the four departmental screening committees. Each committee has 13 members.

The departmental committees review candidates for designation to the Appellate Division and for appointment to fill interim vacancies on the state Supreme Court. In addition, the departmental committee members serve on county screening committees to review candidates to fill interim vacancies on the county-level courts outside the City of New York.

The New York State Bar Association is the largest voluntary state bar association in the nation. It was founded in 1876.

Mr. Fernandez concentrates his practice in the areas of administrative and legislative law, health law, government regulation, and litigation, advising clients on the requirements of and compliance with State statutes and regulations. He frequently represents clients before the Legislature and state agencies and appears in administrative proceedings and in the courts. His experience runs the gamut from state contracts to constitutional issues to rate-making to regulatory compliance to minority and women-owned business enterprises. Mr. Fernandez frequently structures client's business transactions and negotiates contracts. He has handled numerous cases of first impression.

He is a graduate of Syracuse University College of Law (J.D., magna cum laude, 1981) and Le Moyne College (B.A., with honors, 1977).
