(Rochester, NY): Bond, Schoeneck & King is pleased to announce that Gail M. Norris has joined the firm’s Rochester office as senior counsel and part of its higher education and business practices. Norris joins Bond after serving as vice president and general counsel for the University of Rochester where she advised the Board of Trustees and college officials on critical matters involving higher education and health care. At Bond, Norris will work closely with the firm’s higher education lawyers who provide a full range of services to more than 100 higher education clients.
Norris served the University beginning in 2005 and has handled legal work for all aspects of the University’s operations, including governance, business and tax matters, litigation, employment and benefits, risk management, research compliance, faculty and student matters and legal issues related to the University’s health care system. Prior to becoming general counsel, Norris managed complex legal matters related to patenting, research, technology transfer and licensing at the University as its vice provost of technology transfer.
Prior to her employment with the University, Norris spent nearly 20 years in private practice as a business lawyer. She has represented clients in the purchase and sale of businesses, a wide variety of financing matters, the issuance of securities, intellectual property licensing, contracting and other corporate legal matters.
According to Ed Hourihan, the managing member of the firm’s Rochester office, “Gail has a stellar reputation as a knowledgeable, respected lawyer who brings unparalleled experience, not only in education law, but also with corporate, tax and other business matters. We are thrilled to have her join us.” The chairman of Bond’s management committee, Kevin Bernstein, echoes Hourihan’s comment stating that he “looks forward to Gail working with lawyers across the firm’s many offices.”
