Jessica L. Copeland will Chair Bond’s Cybersecurity and Data Privacy Practice and Amber L. Lawyer will be Deputy Chair

(Syracuse, NY and Buffalo, NY): Bond, Schoeneck & King is pleased to announce that Jessica Copeland will be the sole chair of its Cybersecurity and Data Privacy practice and Amber Lawyer will become deputy chair of the practice. Copeland has been the co-chair of the practice since she joined the firm and will now continue to lead the practice with Lawyer as her deputy. Both are seasoned attorneys in this fast-growing area of law, as nearly every entity has critical digital aspects that support their operation.
Copeland’s broad experience includes advising clients on data privacy compliance, including state, federal and international cybersecurity and data privacy laws. She defends clients in data breach class action litigations and routinely manages data incidents, breaches and advises on breach notification obligations. Copeland also prepares incident response strategies, information governance plans, privacy policies and reviews technology and software contracts for data privacy compliance and intellectual property protection. She has a particularized knowledge on compliance with NY SHIELD Act, CCPA and GDPR, and industry-focused compliance with the NY Department of Financial Services Cybersecurity Regulations, HIPAA and HITECH. Copeland obtained a Certificate in Cybersecurity Leadership from Carnegie Mellon in 2019. Additionally, she has a robust intellectual property practice that includes protecting patents, trademarks and copyrights, as well as defending allegedly infringing products in federal and appellate courts and before the International Trade Commission for clients in a wide variety of industries.
Lawyer advises clients on cybersecurity and data privacy compliance issues, including state, federal and international cybersecurity and data privacy laws. She conducts technology and software contract review, data protection risk management assessments, privacy and cybersecurity diligence review for mergers and acquisitions, policy drafting, trainings, data audit and compliance reviews. She also advises her clients on response to data subject requests and complaints, security incidents and data breaches under various state, federal, and international cybersecurity laws including NY SHIELD Act.
