Legal Issues Around Remote Work and Employee Student Loan Reimbursement
July 28, 2021
In her video, labor and employment attorney Kate encouraged employers to make sure they’re complying with wage and hour law requirements for their employees working remotely. For example, employers still need to track hours for non-exempt employees and make sure they’re taking meal breaks.
John, an attorney with Bond’s employee benefits and executive compensation practice, answered some questions about student loan reimbursement programs. In 2020, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act expanded the definition of educational assistance programs (permitted in Internal Revenue Code § 127) to include student loan reimbursement.
The full presentation covered the following topics:
- Student Loan Reimbursement Programs
- Wage and Hour Compliance Issues Arising with Remote Work
- From the Bond “Mail Bag” (including HERO Act compliance issues)
