Child Abuse In An Educational Setting

Gain a clear understanding of the legal responsibilities regarding alleged child abuse in an educational setting. This session will cover who qualifies as a mandated reporter, what constitutes reasonable suspicion and the steps required to comply with state laws. Participants will learn how to properly document and report allegations.

Protecting Your School's Intellectual Property

Leave Rules Related to Private Schools

This session will explore how the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and New York Paid Family Leave (PFL) apply specifically to private schools. Attendees will learn about eligibility requirements, coverage distinctions and special rules for instructional staff including intermittent leave and leave near the end of academic terms.

Navigating Complex Family and Community Issues

This program will provide insight into managing issues that arise out of the contractual nature of the relationship between independent schools and their students and families – including navigating custody issues, parent requests for tuition reimbursement due to withdrawals and/or expulsions and the roles and responsibilities of parents as community members.

Special Education Services
Presented by Sara M. Richmond and Anne M. McGuiness, Ph.D

This session will address how private schools can support students entering with IEPs, 504 Plans and other special education needs. Participants will learn about the legal distinctions between public and private school obligations under IDEA, Section 504 and the ADA including how federal funding impacts compliance.
