Mariam came to Bond from the New York City Department of Education, where she worked for 15 years in the Special Education Unit within the Office of General Counsel, including more than eight years in a leadership role as head of the Special Education Unit.

Her practice at Bond includes advising a full range of educational institutions, including public school districts, charter schools, early childhood programs, independent schools, religious schools and institutions of higher education. Her experience with independent schools includes work with nonprofit nonpublic schools approved by the New York State Education Department for private placement (Section 853 schools).
