January 11, 2016

(Syracuse, NY): The law firm of Bond, Schoeneck and King has appointed one of its members, litigation attorney Clifford Tsan, as the firm’s first Diversity and Professional Development Leader. Cliff will focus on diversity and inclusion initiatives, including minority and women attorney recruiting, as well as professional development programs for all associate attorneys.

Commenting on his new role, Cliff said, “This is an exciting and important next step in the firm’s commitment to devote sustained and innovative attention to its diversity and inclusion initiatives. I look forward to working with the Chairs of Bond’s existing committees to engage in greater law school campus involvement, advance our mentoring program and implement new initiatives for our associate professional development.” He went on to say, “My mission calls for a multi-prong approach, which includes enhancing and evolving our firm’s diversity and inclusion initiatives and ensuring that all associate attorneys at Bond have the tools and opportunities for success. My new role will allow Bond to focus not only on our primary goal of diversity within the firm, but will also allow us to partner more effectively with bar associations, law schools and other community and business groups in joint efforts to increase diversity within the legal profession as a whole.”

Chairman of the firm’s management committee, Kevin Bernstein explained, “Diversity and inclusion are core values of the firm because they strengthen our bond with both our clients and communities. One of the best things we can do is to ensure that diversity and inclusion are at the forefront of our present and future goals. Our value is in problem-solving for our clients. A group of people with different sets of experiences and perspectives only adds to that value. Diversity in our attorney team is important to us, to our clients, and it strengthens our firm. That is why we are carving out a formal role for Cliff Tsan to spend a significant portion of his worktime devoted to diversity, inclusion and professional development initiatives.” Kevin went on to say, “Cliff is the right person for this role because he has been an effective leader, he co-chairs two practice groups, runs client teams, mentors associates and has contributed great insights and vision to the diversity committee.”

In his legal practice, Cliff brings in-depth experience and creative problem-solving skills to sophisticated, high-stakes litigation matters facing clients in construction, real estate development, manufacturing, technology, defense, higher education and other industries. He’s also experienced in arbitration and mediation.
