Bond, Schoeneck & King Welcomes Michael Barnett as Senior Counsel

December 10, 2025

(Albany, NY) – Bond, Schoeneck & King (Bond) is pleased to announce that Michael Barnett has joined the firm as senior counsel, bringing to the firm more than a decade of distinguished service as a federal prosecutor and extensive experience in complex litigation and investigations.

Barnett most recently served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Northern District of New York, where he investigated and prosecuted a wide range of federal crimes, including financial fraud, health care fraud, violations of the False Claims Act, public corruption, tax offenses and prescription drug diversion by medical professionals. He was first-chair trial counsel in nine federal jury trials, including three multi-defendant cases and led successful multi-agency investigations into two of the largest financial fraud cases in the district’s history.

In addition to his trial work, Barnett supervised the Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) Review Team for the Capital Region, coordinated fraud investigations with federal, state, and local law enforcement and served for more than a decade as the district’s Public Information Officer, advising U.S. Attorneys on media strategy and serving as spokesperson to local, national and international media outlets.

Prior to his federal service, Barnett practiced at Loeb & Loeb LLP in New York City, where he litigated complex matters involving contracts, business disputes, copyright, trusts and estates and judgment enforcement.

Barnett earned his J.D. from Columbia University Law School, where he was a James Kent Scholar and Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar, and his B.A. magna cum laude in international affairs from George Washington University, where he was editor in chief of the independent student newspaper. He is currently an active member of the Federal Court Bar Association for the Northern District of New York, serving as trustee, co-chair of the Criminal Practice Committee, and co-editor of the association’s quarterly newsletter.

“Michael’s exceptional trial experience, leadership in federal enforcement and deep understanding of government investigations make him an invaluable addition to our team,” said Bond’s management committee chair Brian Butler. “His background as both a prosecutor and advisor will strengthen our ability to serve clients across sectors.”

Barnett will be based in Bond’s Albany office, where he will focus on representing individual and institutional clients in civil litigation, investigations and federal prosecutions. He said, “During my years of government service, I got to know numerous Bond attorneys and their excellent work. I am thrilled to now be practicing alongside them.”
