Managing the Struggling Employee: Mental and Emotional Health and the Law

As more and more workers struggle with anxiety, depression and related conditions, it is more necessary than ever for human resource personnel to be adept at responding to these situations. This seminar will focus on the myriad of issues associated with cognitive, mental and emotional health conditions, including performance management, leaves and other accommodations. We will also cover issues related to aging employees who may be experiencing cognitive decline. Our approach will be to present real life scenarios and discuss practical responses.

  • Anxiety, depression and performance management 
  • Responding to the undiagnosed and/or in-denial employee
  • Allegations of workplace bullying or hostile environment as contributing factors 
  • The duty to accommodate (and its limits)
  • Handling the disruptive worker and concerns about workplace violence
  • The aging worker and cognitive decline
  • Engaging on retirement and exit strategies
