The New York State Office of the Medicaid Inspector General (OMIG), in collaboration with Performant Healthcare Solutions, earlier this week announced the launch of its Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) portal. Earlier this year, Performant commenced its role as the OMIG’s new RAC.
Per Performant, the portal is designed to manage audit documentation and correspondence electronically, and it encourages providers to register. More on the portal is here.
We note that there are potential positives and negatives to registering: Through the portal’s functionality, it is expected that registrants will receive timely updates and find ease in transmitting and managing documentation attendant to RAC audit activity. On the other hand, registration may have the functional effect of indicating a provider is on notice, or should have been, concerning communication from the OMIG that might nonetheless go inadvertently unread.
Leadership from Performant presented on its new role in New York State, overall, during the ninth installment of Bond’s ongoing educational webinar series with the OMIG. Notably in that September 2025 webinar, Performant addressed questions concerning its portal and indicated that users will have the latitude to set up a variety of ”push” notifications to stay apprised if new content appears on the portal for providers’ review.
Please note that Bond’s ongoing series with the OMIG returns at noon on January 28, 2026, with the 10th installment. Bond will soon issue details about program content and a link to register.
If in the interim you have further questions about Performant’s announcement or matters concerning interaction with the OMIG, generally, please contact Roger Bearden, Gabriel S. Oberfield, Kaydeen M. Maitland or any other Bond attorney with whom you work regularly.
