Statement Against Anti-Semitism and Bigotry

November 10, 2023

An alarming number of incidents of anti-Semitic threats, harassment, violence and vandalism have come to light within the last several weeks in communities across America, including those in which we live and practice law. Such bigotry will not be tolerated at our firm.

Last year, anti-Semitic incidents in the U.S., as tracked by the Anti-Defamation League, reached their highest level since the 1970s with nearly 3,700 reported cases. FBI Director Christopher Wray testified before Congress on Nov. 1, 2023 that anti-Semitic acts have reached historic levels. These incidents included assault, vandalism and harassment of Jewish people. Bond Schoeneck & King (Bond) condemns anti-Semitism, Islamophobia or bigotry and discrimination of any kind.

Bond stands against bigotry in all forms and stands with the communities affected. Speaking out against hatred and working for the inclusion of people of all religions, races, gender identities, sexual orientations, abilities and ethnicities is critical to the safety and security of all of us. Being aware of these acts of anti-Semitism, violence and harassment, and calling out the hatred is only the first step. We must work to educate ourselves and continue taking a stand against incidents of discrimination, bias and assault, and work to dismantle the structures in place that perpetuate hatred and discrimination.

Bond agrees with the recent sentiment from our colleagues at other law firms that all people should “be treated with respect and be free of any conduct that targets their identity and is offensive, hostile, intimidating or inconsistent with their personal dignity and rights.” That is why Bond will be addressing candidates directly to inform them of the firm’s expectations. The following statement will be added to all job postings: “Bond, Schoeneck & King condemns anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, racism, homophobia and bigotry of any kind. Bond remains committed to promoting anti-bigotry and intentional diversity throughout our communities and the legal profession. Civility and respect are cornerstones of the legal profession and our law firm.” By doing this, Bond makes clear from the outset its expectations for all applicants and potential candidates.

Bond remains committed to promoting anti-bigotry and intentional diversity throughout our communities and the legal profession.
