The Bond Torchbearer Spotlight with Candace J. Gomez

July 28, 2022

By: Candace J. Gomez and Kristin Warner

Torchbearer: A person who leads or inspires others in working toward a valued goal.

The Bond Women’s Initiative is presenting a series of interviews to highlight the careers and successes of the women attorneys of Bond: the Bond Torchbearer Spotlight. The spotlight focuses on women attorneys formerly or currently at Bond in all stages of their careers. The Torchbearer Spotlight showcases the many ways Bond women lead and inspire others in their law practice, private life, community service and/or educational experiences.

Please join us for a short “fireside chat” where we will spotlight our next Torchbearer – Candace Gomez.

Candace is the first woman of color elected to the membership of the firm. She is honored to have the opportunity to work with her colleagues towards making the practice of law more inclusive, because we all benefit when the profession of law accurately reflects the array of clients and communities that we serve.

Candace, a member of the firm sitting in the Garden City, NY office, is co-chair of the firm's school law practice, representing school districts, private schools, colleges and universities. She takes great care and pride in providing reliable, prompt and practical general counsel and litigation services to some of the largest school districts and universities in New York State.

Candace practices the values of active citizenship through her volunteer work, bar association activities and helping her school district clients to find innovative ways to make the public education system more equitable for all students.

She serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Long Island Hispanic Bar Association and the Amistad Long Island Black Bar Association Executive Committee. Candace is also a member of the New York State Association of School Attorneys (NYSASA) Board of Directors.  Although she is a parent of two young children and has a demanding work schedule, Candace finds ways to give back to her community, such as helping to organize food drives, volunteering for the Salvation Army, and volunteering at her church

Bond women light the way – and we want to applaud and honor those efforts.
