Executive Order Seeks to Eliminate DEI From Higher Education Accreditation Process
April 30, 2025
As a follow-up to this week’s Business in 2025 webinar, Bond labor and employment attorney Kymberley Walcott-Aggrey talked about the impact on colleges and universities from the Trump administration’s recent executive order overhauling the accreditation process.
Many accrediting agencies require institutions of higher education to have diversity, equity and inclusion standards in their policies. But the new executive order classifies such requirements as an abuse of authority and a violation of anti-discrimination laws. Agencies that fail to amend their policies to satisfy the executive order face the prospect of being removed from the Department of Education’s approved list of accreditors.
