Understanding New York’s Updated Quarantine Rules

As a bonus to Bond’s Jan. 5 webinar about the evolving legal implications of COVID-19 for business, Bond labor and employment attorney Adam Mastroleo recorded a short video to discuss the New York State Department of Health’s most recent quarantine guidance, which was issued Dec. 26.

The new DOH guidance document makes New York’s policy consistent with that of the Centers for Disease Control by reducing to 10 days the length of time a person must quarantine if they are exposed to a positive case of COVID-19. Previous guidance required 14 days of isolation.

So does that mean employers can bring back their exposed workers after 10 days, as long as they remain asymptomatic? In a word, probably. But because the new guidance is not 100% clear on that question, Adam advises employers to address the issue on a case-by-case basis.
