Update on Coronavirus Relief for Higher Education

January 20, 2021

By: Mallory A. Campbell

As a bonus to Bond’s Jan. 19 webinar about the evolving legal implications of COVID-19 for business, Bond labor and employment attorney Mallory A. Campbell recorded a short video to provide an update on the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF), which was established by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act in March 2020 with an allocation of $14 billion.

The U.S. budget bill signed into law last month provided an additional $22.7 billion for HEERF, which institutions can use to defray expenses associated with coronavirus; fund student-support activities; and provide financial aid to students. Institutions that were not eligible for funds released under the CARES Act last year have until April 15, 2021, to apply for money from the new tranche.

The full presentation covered the following topics:

  • PPP Update
  • COVID Plans from the Biden Transition Team
  • Update from Albany
  • Higher Education Relief Package Provisions – Known and Unknown
  • COVID WARN Act Developments
